Keep in mind that one piano does not fit all, so you need to know your own musical requirements before you decide on a specific unit. Test all the different piano brands, sizes, styles, and ages in order to appreciate their key weights, different timbers, and levels of quality.
Avoid settling for the first piano that you come across. Allow yourself to browse at least five to six different pianos before you make your final decision. In addition, it is advisable that you do not buy one without inspecting and playing it.

Piano tuning is the act of making minute adjustments to the tensions of the strings of an acoustic piano to properly align the intervals between their tones so that the instrument is in tune.
Not all that helpful unless you know what each of those words mean as applied to a piano. Basically, the strings attached to the keys are tightened or loosened as needed to ensure each key will play the correct note when pressed. While anyone can attempt to do this, I recommend using a trained professional. Pianos are delicate instruments, after all. Trying to tune a piano without knowing how can damage the instrument. Hiring a trained professional is cheaper than replacing a piano! (more…)

A piano is an incredibly complex and delicate piece of machinery, with hundreds of individual parts, all necessary for the piano to be in working order. One cannot simply load a piano onto the back of a truck and haul it around. Doing so practically guarantees it will get broken.
And while it’s possible to repair most piano damage, it’s rare for a damaged piano to ever be 100% restored back to factory spec. Just as with a person, it will carry those scars for life.
